It is a decentralised body of the Ministry of Health. Its functions include granting the sanitary registration that medicines need before they can be marketed, authorising clinical trials, monitoring the advertising of health products and issuing alerts when it detects irregular products.
For peptides two situations must be distinguished. Some molecules exist in Mexico as registered medicines (for example, certain GLP-1 agonists), dispensed in pharmacies with a prescription. The vast majority of research peptides, however, have no sanitary registration as a medicine and can only be sold as research material.
A research reagent does not become a medicine by sharing a molecule with a registered one, and it should not be presented for therapeutic purposes.
The regulatory status of each compound changes over time. Dated, compound-by-compound information is on this site's regulatory status page.
